Project Management

Interface provides multidisciplinary and seamlessly integrated project management services within the East African region. Over the past decade, our team of over 45 core and associate project managers, architects, engineers, planners and environmental scientists has consistently delivered important, but complex engineering design, materials research and testing, engineering procurement and construction management projects professionally, on time and within budget, operating in some of the most challenging physical environments  and  complex institutional contexts.

Our approach and examples of our work

Good project management is the framework for much of the work that we do. Interface has considerable expertise in managing projects, using our knowledge of the practical elements of implementation to ensure that the objectives are achieved.

For each project, we:

  1. Confirm the governance structure for any project at the outset, with an identified Project Manager reporting to the client, and with clear roles and accountabilities for the entire project team.
  2.  Agree a progress reporting structure for a project at inception, and ensure all necessary project management tools are in place (including detailed project plan, status reports, risk log and a stakeholder management and communication plan).
  3.  Assign work packages to the project team, monitor their deliverables and manage their workload on an ongoing basis. This includes the preparation of statements of work or timesheets
  4.  Apply a product based planning approach to ensure that project activities remain focussed on achievement of high-quality deliverables at all times

Our expertise in using this methodology to manage multi-disciplinary teams to achieve challenging goals in dynamic environments is proven. We believe that effective project management requires well structured consultations and upfront planning, as well as a flexible approach: we will always discuss our methodologies with our clients and we adapt the application of our project management methodology to suit different requirements.

Examples of our current work includes the Design and Construction Supervision of Mbale and Tororo Central Markets which is involves development of market architectural and structural concepts and designs incorporating input from a diverse range of stakeholders, and supervising Contractors on behalf of Government of Uganda. An expert team of architects, structural and civil engineers, economists, financial analysts and environmental scientists are providing inputs over a 24month period on this project that is part of a 70 Million US dollar tranche loan from the African Development Bank.
